With February quickly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about your Valentine’s Day plans. Do you and your significant other enjoy taking long walks along the beach, followed by a romantic sunset? Whatever the day has in store, the most important thing is to remember the love and admiration you have for each other. Spending time with my husband (and children!) on this special day is the best gift I could ever ask for. The fond memories and feeling of nostalgia for seeing my loved ones’ faces will stay with me for years to come. Valentine’s Day has yet to disappoint! I know I’m more of an exception to the rule—many people LOVE (pun intended) receiving heartfelt, physical gifts.  

But what if you can’t afford to buy your significant other a lavish gift or spend hours creating a cute Valentine’s Day gift that you know they will go absolutely head over heels for? Let’s be honest: who doesn’t enjoy a relaxing day at the spa? From the steaming sauna and hot stone massage to the manicure and makeover, it’s like heaven. For a hefty price! Thankfully, with a few simple supplies and the perfect setting, you can recreate this experience at home for a fraction of the cost. And no, you don’t need to compromise to have the ideal day (or night!) with your loved one. 

You might need to pick up a few things if you don’t already have them tucked away underneath the bathroom sink somewhere. Grab some scented bubble bath soap or bath bombs (you can always rely on lavender and vanilla to induce relaxation) and give your significant other a warm bath. Light some candles throughout the bathroom and turn on mellow music for a tranquil ambiance. Dim the lights, and voilà, you may have just given one of the best DIY Valentine’s gifts known to humankind.  

Love Notes Memory Jar 

Creating shared experiences is fun, but reminiscing on them is even better—bringing up old memories can be even funnier the second time! If you’re looking for a cute Valentine’s Day idea that you and your significant other can enjoy, consider creating a memory jar filled with love notes. This is extremely easy and falls under “cheap gifts for Valentine’s Day.” But remember, cheap doesn’t have to equal cheesy! We tend to gravitate toward couples when we think about Valentine’s Day. Although the holiday traditionally represents the love, affection, and admiration felt between romantic partners, why can’t this day also apply to our children? And if you have kids or have ever been around one on the holidays, you know they’re all about gifts! So much so that it’s sometimes a bit overwhelming (but we can’t fault them for it; we’ve all been there).
