I feel like I have been working on my boys room makeover for months. Oh wait! I have. Big projects like a complete room renovation take time… and from personal experience, more time than we think they will. So, lets dive in to all of the boys room makeover updates!
Here is where we started with the room
If you remember, last summer I made over my daughters room so now it was the boys’ turn. It truly was desperate for some TLC. I spent a few weeks (yes, you read that right, weeks) skim coating the room to get rid of the orange peel texture walls and the 3 inch thick mess of a ceiling texture. It took a LONG TIME. I promise I’ve got a whole post in the works all about skim coating but for now here is a peek at the before and after…
My main goal for the room has been fun & functional, which was also the theme for my garage, so maybe it’s just the theme of my life. Either way, I am very happy with it. After the skim coating I primed and painted the walls and ceiling. This is the paint sprayer I use and it is hands down the best one for large scale projects. It really is the best of the best and so easy to use. I painted the ceiling by rolling it after the walls were done because I didn’t want to have to tape everything off. A choice I immediately regretted because the amount of time to prep is made up for almost instantly with the time (or lack thereof) that it takes to spray.
Here is a view of the room after skim coating, priming and painting. Literally a word of difference!
And just incase you forgot where we started…
After painting I did the closet. Remember the goal here: Fun & functional. The key honestly for the closest was to get some decent storage while leaving room for clothes. Again, a full post on this build will be coming but for now lets just appreciate that transformation!:
I was prepping to lay the flooring after the closet was complete. It was the same week as my live course, Working With Brands. I had just finished the live when I walked to my basement to find that it was flooding from all of the snow melting so fast. So THAT was fun, and also the push I needed to hire out the flooring. We laid the same flooring in 2021 when we moved in in our kitchen. It was a project we knew how to do and felt that hiring it out was worth it with all that we had going on. It was in fact, worth it.
So that gets us to where we are today. So many little bits to this boys room makeover updates post, but thats just the reality of it all, right?!It took what feels like forever to get to this point or really to get to the “blank slate” point. Now that we are here with just a few pieces added to the slate, the progress will go so fast and I can hardly wait. So many fun finishing touches and also the bonus of my boys getting out of the guest room and into their room again.
After the flooring went in, I added the floating desks and the lights. You can read all about that here.
I would love to hear what you think! Which project do you like the most so far?! I promise this post will be updated as I get the detailed write ups for each project finished and added to the blog, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, here is some BTS of the desk build and the light install! I cannot wait to deep dive the rest of the projects and give you all of the details. Until then, happy project-ing!
Ps. If you like a good room transformation, you’ll love this one of my dining room!
All of my love,
