I don’t know if I have ever been so happy to have a room FINISHED! Don’t get me wrong – I loved doing the boys shared room and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! It was just A LOT of work. Like, so much that it almost felt never ending. I attribute 99% of that to the fact that I had to skim coat the whole thing. I really could have skipped that but alas, smooth walls and ceiling are totally worth it (I can say that now that its all finished, of course). 

So in case you needed a reminder, here is where we started:

WOOF. If that carpet could tells its life story we might have more insight into the dinosaur age, ya know? With the boys sharing a room, we needed storage and more function in the room. The built ins in theory were great. As far as functionality, not so much. The drawers were pretty broken, the shelves were too high up and they blocked SO much of the light from the window.

May I reiterate how happy I am that this room is done?!

It was fun to be able to incorporate what they love: Star Wars, dinosaurs, and art aaaaall in one room just simply by playing along with the color scheme. I really love the English Traditional / Eclectic look and have been drawn to it for years. When we began the process of foster care I actually did our room we had prepared for a child in a very similar color scheme.

Okay, enough chatter. Here is how the boys shared room turned out. I hope you love it as much as I do. And if you don’t I hope you’ll lie to me and tell me you love it anyway. Just kidding, no need to lie. But like, maybe fabricate just a little bit. 

The ball holders may have been one of the boys’ favorite additions to the room, along with the rug that they cannot get enough of.

I had so much fun sourcing unique things for each part of the room. Some of them are antiques and some are items that I’ve had for years. My younger sons name is from the show “Friday Night Lights” so when I saw the “Texas Forever” Pennant in a shop in Texas I couldn’t help but snag it for his corner!

Above the boys’ dresser and desks I used these really cool Felt Right boards.

The boys desks were a fun DIY that I had had planned from the very beginning of the room makeover. They turned out better than I had hoped and I am happy to report that the boys actually use them: BONUS!. I got the chairs and rolling carts from Ikea and they are perfect for storing all of their art supplies.

The bedding (although I am kicking myself for not straightening it more for photos), is from Beddys and is worth every stinking penny. Seriously. My boys make their own beds every day without fail or complaint and it lasts FOR-E-VER.

I am hoping to work backward to make sure and share every project that went into the room now that I can actually breathe, that is. As always, leave any questions you have in the comments below.
